Basic Info
Name:Chihaya
Birthdate:1985-02-19
Bio
Character Name; Chihaya
Series/Fandom; Earthian (manga version)

Personality; Chihaya is, overall, a very optimistic, caring, and empathic young man.

He was taught from an early age that he should be sorry for the way he was born and so never blames a soul for the teasing and abuse he receives because of his coloration, even though it does bother him. He never voices his dislike of this treatment, however, explaining to anyone who doesn't understand that it's just the way things are in his home and, after all, he really is strange. The few friends he does manage to make, though, are treated to his seemingly unshakeable loyalty. Chihaya naturally looks for the good in everyone, including people, and he latches onto it, the only proof he needs that they're worth the time and effort he puts into making sure they're happy.

But one thing to keep in mind in all of that is that Chihaya doesn't really think that his time and energy are worth much to the people around him. Kagetsuya especially, he always thinks is annoyed with him for getting in his way, even knowing that his partner loves him; and the very last thing he wants is to cause trouble for the people he loves and cares about, so he will go out of his way to make them more comfortable and happier, even if it means taking himself out of their lives, despite how much pain it causes him.

Because of his self-sacrificing nature, Chihaya has learned to shut down his emotions when it would favor the people he cares about, to close them off inside of him to the point where he seems utterly uncaring to the people around him despite the anguish he actually feels inside.

Even with the darkness that lives in Chihaya's heart, he's still cheerful. He's a young man that just loves life and those that also take joy in it in some way or another. He loves his friends with every fiber of his being and Kagetsuya most of all and there is nothing that they could do to change that because he will always try to understand why they do the things they do, even if it hurts him. Chihaya finds joy in everything that makes life worth living and believes anything that has someone that loves it deserves a chance to be saved, even the Earthians whose dark deeds he's seen for himself. But everyone deserves a fair trial, as far as he's concerned; no one deserves to be judged based on the actions of a few, and no one has the right to judge anyone else unworthy of life, love, or happiness.

That being said, he is not above whining when Kagetsuya doesn't give him his way or, in some cases, even telling him off when Chihaya believes that he's in the wrong. He has something of a self-righteous streak, especially when it comes to the Earthians, but because of te way he expresses himself, he can often be considered very childish.

Strengths/Abilities; Despite everything Chihaya has been through in his life, he's shown a great resilience and the ability to bounce back almost immediately as soon as an issue is resolved. In addition, he also has a great mind for facts, especially in the area of botany. He's highly intelligent and driven by not only his desire to do well for his own sake, but also to make the people he cares about proud of him.

As an Angel, Chihaya has a few superhuman abilities. He can teleport great distances (canonically from space to Earth, though naturally this will be nerfed to within the confines of the cage if he's accepted) and can telepathically communicate with other angels. He has minor shape-shifting abilities that allow him to hide his long hair and wings as well as being able to fly because of the wings (the right one of which was restored by the Black Angel that healed him). Of course each Angel is born with a unique power as well and Chihaya's is the ability to create minor storms (fairly heavy winds and some rain, as well as minor changes in temperature), though he rarely uses it. Finally, and possibly most important to him, Chihaya's hair and wing color, while unfortunately leaving him open to harsh ridicule by the other Angels, was an important mutation -- an evolutionary leap -- that made Chihaya the first purebred Angel to be born with a resistance to the Black Cancer.

Weaknesses; Because of his experiences growing up, Chihaya was left with quite a number of insecurities which, more often than not, create in him a guilt complex, which opens the doors for any number of doubts that most of the time just aren't true. These doubts cause him to make sometimes rash decisions that he deems to be in everyone's best interests but half the time only manage to hurt everyone involved. His ability to suppress his emotions as well not only ends up hurting the people he's trying to protect, but also leaves those emotions to eat away him inside, closing him off more and more to the problem at hand until something or someone comes along that finally lets those emotions out.

Chihaya is also very naive in some things; for example, he's only recently discovered, at the age of seventeen, how to tell when someone has a romantic interest in another person when they haven't stated it outright. He's still working on that particular skill. Physically, of course Chihaya is very small, which makes him far less likely to stand a chance in any sort of hand to hand combat and he is fairly easy to overpower that way.

Lastly, he is very sensitive to heat.

Background; Many people think that angels walk the Earth, helping people in need and performing miracles on God's behalf. This is half-true. Angels do walk the Earth, but they're here from their home planet, Eden, to watch us and judge us. For five billion years the angels of Eden have watched the Earthians, gathering "pluses" and "minuses," positive and negative points for and against the Earthians; whichever side collects ten thousand points first will determine the fate of the people on the planet. The angels charged with this duty are the checkers, split into teams of two -- one a plus checker and one a minus checker. Chihaya was merely one of these checkers.

Throughout the angels' history every child had been born with blonde hair and light eyes. Until Chihaya. Due to an unknown mutation, Chihaya was born with pure black hair and, when they would eventually grow in, pitch black wings. Because of this, he was given up to an orphanage when he was still an infant, his parents, who he'd never know, frightened and ashamed of what they had conceived. This would become a theme through much of Chihaya's youth.

Dubbed unlucky by the other children in the orphanage, Chihaya was often taunted and ridiculed for his dark features and eventually kicked out of St. Michael's Orphanage when his wings grew in with not a spot of white on them. But despite being angry and upset about his treatment over something that he could hardly be blamed on him, Chihaya knew that to retaliate would only make the other orphans feel as bad as he did when they teased him and he just couldn't do that to them. He eventually grew out of his anger, coming to understand why the other angels with their blonde hair and their perfect white wings hated and feared him and began working hard to prove that he was more than just his abnormal hair color. It was because of his hard work and his impeccable grades that Chihaya was put into the running to become Lord Michael's (the commanding officer of the Earthian mission) heir and, in the end, because of a seemingly random decision by Michael, was chosen over many other candidates, including one Kagetsuya.

Chihaya never knew who exactly he'd beaten, too overjoyed and grateful to have been chosen himself, but fate would bring the two angels together anyway. On his first day of college, as he'd been expecting, there were many students that weren't willing to accept him and both verbal and physical abuse started on just the first day. But while Chihaya was determined to just ignore it and hope they stopped, he had another angel looking out for him that day and that would continue doing so for a long time after. Kagetsuya not only stood up for Chihaya against the other freshman, but against Kagetsuya's own friends, forever leaving an impression on Chihaya that he would never forget. Later, he would even realize that that day was when he'd first fell in love with Kagetsuya.

Even though he was three years behind Kagetsuya, with quite a lot of hard work, Chihaya was able to graduate not only with Kagetsuya's class, but as valedictorian and he decided, despite Michael's disagreement, to become a plus checker on Earth. He loved the Earthian and worked hard for three years as Kagetsuya's partner to gather as many pluses as he could to save them, meeting and befriending many of them along the way, despite his partner's constant warnings.

Over the years of their friendship, Chihaya had just grown closer, fonder, and more in awe of Kagetsuya so it came as a major blow when he was informed that their partnership would be terminated, though he refused to show it outwardly, not wanting to be selfish. Unbeknownst to him, the severing had happened because, after Lord Seraphim had fallen to the Black Cancer (a sickness that was quickly ravaging the Angel population), Chihaya (having the highest scores during the Checkers' Exams) was next in line to become a Master, one of the heads of the Angel military. Chihaya, however, assumed that it was because he and Kagetsuya were a poor match as a team. Eventually, after Kagetsuya had already been assigned a new partner, Chihaya went to Lord Raphael and later to Sayaka, his own replacement, requesting to return to Kagetsuya's side. Despite, or perhaps thanks to, a brief stint in jail after a misunderstanding, Sayaka allowed Chihaya to take back his place and he and Kagetsuya were sent on an E Vacation in order to work on their communication and relationship as partners.

It was during this time that Chihaya and Kagetsuya committed the greatest atrocity. A sin so horrible it was punishable by death. They loved each other.

While sitting in his holding cell awaiting their hearing, Chihaya made the decision to deny that anything had happened. Of course Kagetsuya had insisted that, yes, he had made love to his male partner, but there was nothing wrong about it and he was willing to face the death penalty if it meant that he wouldn't have to turn on his principles. But Chihaya, able to suppress his emotions in order to save the man he loved, denied, even when pressed by Kagetsuya himself, that anything had happened between them and, in fact, that he loved Kagetsuya at all. Because of this disagreement between the two accused, they were returned to their cells to await a proper trial. It was during this time that the Black Angels, a group on Earth made up of the offspring of Angels and Earthians that had both incredible powers and a natural immunity to the Black Cancer, attacked the Angels' ship and Elvira, Lord Seraphim's daughter and lover, came to take Chihaya back to Earth with her to help save it. It didn't take much to convince him; Chihaya (who had discovered the Angels' true plan to wipe out the Earthians and repopulate the planet for their own use) didn't want the Earthians destroyed and, just as important, his escape to the Earth would result in his becoming a Lucifer, a fallen Angel, which would in turn clear Kagetsuya of all the charges against him.

Before he left with Elvira, Chihaya ripped his right wing off of his back and left it with Lord Michael, who let him escape, asking him to give it to Kagetsuya because he was no longer an Angel, and because he had nothing left to give him.

Back on Earth, one of the Black Angels healed Chihaya before showing him around and introducing him the rest of their ranks and explaining their plan. However, after learning that they were backed by a company Chihaya knew had been involved in unethical and downright inhuman experiments and had planned on not only preventing the Angels' attack on the Earth, but directly attacking the Angels themselves and their home planet because of Elvira's grudge against them, he couldn't stay. Chihaya left them, taking refuge in the home of several of his friends where he explained the situation and they tried to come up with a plan that would stop the destruction of Earth.

The airship came for him while he sat outside, watching the river and the night sky, the hustle and bustle of the city, musing on the beauty of the planet that was now his home.
